About Willy Van Yperen and Rob Van Yperen
Willy Van Yperen was born in Holland and was a jewellery apprentice prior to immigrating to Canada in 1957. Upon his arrival, he worked for a prominent jewellery store before deciding to set up his own studio in 1967. With meager funds but a passion and talent for design, the business has evolved into bustling studio that it is today, still incorporating the handmade techniques that Willy used.
Rob Van Yperen, Willy’s older son, started working in the shop at the age of eleven, learning the basics of the trade and adding his artistic traits developed by classes in pottery and drawing. By the time Rob graduated from the jewellery design program at Vancouver Community College, he had developed his own unique style which complimented that of his father’s.
In the following years, both father and son accrued awards from the “DeBeers Diamonds Today” competition with their award winning rings that have stood the test of time in design circles.
When visiting the store, the customer can see showcases filled with “objects d’arts” and a number of goldsmiths creating behind a window panel.
Each of our artists comes with a unique perspective. Thea is a West Coast graduate, while Paul is European influenced, both by Italy and Holland. Every design has input from all perspectives.
The store was architecturally designed by Rob and offers our clients the experience of a unique workplace. We employ age-old techniques for handmade “one of a kind” pieces.
Jewellery need not be frivolous. It is often used to mark momentous times in our lives. It can evoke memories from long ago and create new ones in the giving. It is cherished by new generations when given from past ones.
